NDP doing all they can to stop HST
The NDP have declared that they will do everything in their party’s power to stop or at least slow down the progress of the HST. BC NDP leader Carole James has made stops across the province holding community forums to help garner support for their tax opposition. “We’ll take every opportunity we have,” say James, referring to her party’s recent actions to stall the passage of the bill. The party promises to repeatedly amend the act as well as use all speaking time allotted to MLA’s in an effort to slow the progress . Yesterday the NDP forced a standing vote, which requires all MLA’s to stand and have their names recorded into the record.
Meanwhile both B.C. and Ontario governments are doing everything they can to combat the Oppositions campaign against the harmonized tax. During Tuesdays Legislature Finance Minister Colin Hansen restated the party’s reason for introducing the new tax, saying:
“Eliminating the PST and replacing it with the HST will make B.C. more competitive, it will stimulate the economy and it will result in more jobs in every region of the province. This is a bill that modernizes and enhances the competitiveness of the provincial tax system by eliminating the old, antiquated, inefficient and job-killing PST.”
The Ontario government has recently released a short film aimed at addressing what they are calling the “myths of HST“.
The rapidly approaching implementation of the new tax seems to have all parties scrambling to sway voter opinion.

I wish Ontario would follow suit with BC for an official petition to sign. I am a stay-at-home mom and babysit to make ends meat. It is disgusting that our government is taxing us more and on things like childrens items!!! The sad part in all of this is that our government is so totally out to lunch and doing whatever they like. It does not care about Canadians. I wish our government had a clue of what they are doing to us and had a bit of heart. Our government has completely let us down and I will vote for anyone just to get this current government out! Our government is complete joke and my only solace in this is karma which I hope strikes back!!!
Where is the Petition to sign in Ontario???? I’m ready to sign as are everyone I know…. This MUST HAPPEN NOW! Why isn’t the NDP organizing an official position if they are really against it!!!
Mr Little, type in “HST petitions” that will get you there. Small businesses will lose their 8% PST exemption when they buy their goods from a supplier July 1. They will have to increase the sale price by 8% to cover that loss. Then the 13% HST will also be added to the retail sale price. That totals a whopping 21%. This can’t be real?
HST tax is portrait by government same as terrorist portrait subside
Mission (virgin at other end) so I believe this tax grab is not going to improve anything accept government treasury.
Hello All:
In my opinion, the HST is nothing but a tax grab in the guise of an economy boost for the province. If the implementation of an HST is so effective in boosting economies, then we would would have heard of case studies with documented proof. In the standard speech of the current Ontario Liberals, there are 150 documented cases of other jurisdictions implementing the HST and therefore we should do it too! Well, give me some examples. Give me one really good example with hard data. In general , taxes are a burden on businesses and individuals to fund all of the necessary activities required for today’s society. The way governments encourage businesses is tax cuts; tax incentives; tax deferrals; tax holidays; reduce red tape etc., Since when does implementing additional taxes increase jobs? The math does not make any sense or the government has failed in explaining how this works in common everyday language. The Liberals say there will be additional 650,000 new jobs in Ontario by 2015 which is only 4 years away. I would really like to know how they are going to be able to prove that the HST produces 1 job, never mind 650,000. Do you hear any companies declaring that this will enable them to hire more people in the near future? I certainly have not. As an aside, I am a regular customer at Chapters and just noticed that they charge PST on books but charge HST on magazines. What sense does that make? The charging of HST on electicity and natural gas for home heating certainly makes no sense what so ever. How does charging additional taxes on my basic utility needs create more jobs in Ontario. Again the math makes no sense.
