Ontario Real Estate Association and HST
The Ontario Real Estate Asssociation (OREA), lead by their President Pauline Aunger, present their perspectives regarding the Ontario Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.
Pauline explains how the Ontario HST will affect not only the direct purchase of a home, but also the various services associated with purchasing a home, including appraisals, insurance and professional mortgage services. She points out that a $600,000 home will cost an additional $12,000 in taxes. But the HST doesn’t just affect home buyers, it affects current homeowners as well. For example, HST will add 8% to the cost of electricity, heating, snow clearing, renovations, phone, cable, lawn care, etc.

This tax is absurd. Who cares about the big businesses that can handle a loss. It’s all about the home owner/individual right now, and HST doesnt help. it hinders.
I’m absolutely disgusted with the Canadian government. This is the most handfuls of flesh ever taken from the bodies of the Canadian people. So cleverly disguised that most people don’t realize what’s happening. We are living in more like a dictatorship than people realize!
Would the U.S. citizens go along so peacefully with something like this?
this tax will bury everyone. we currently pay too much tax as it is and to put this on the people will destroy the economy
The canadian government takes advantage of the restrained personalities of the canadian people as a whole. They know we will sit in our living rooms or stand in the driveway with our neighbours and quietly complain how digusting this all is and then quietly pay it. We never seem to be able to rally and defend ourselves against anything and everything they shove down our throats. We may be the only people i know of with no breaking point.
