The BC NDP HST Petition

22 January 2010 4 Comments

Carole James of the BC NDP has remained  outspoken towards the HST in BC since the Liberals proposed it in July 2009. The NDP website, www.bcndp.ca, encourages visitors to sign an anti-HST petition, stating that the new added tax will increase the cost of things like movie tickets, vitamins and airplane tickets. While the majority of parliament agrees that there are upsides to the proposed HST, there is no mention of those benefits on the NDP website. Of course the New Democrats statement doesn’t come without the mandatory political angle. An excerpt from the NDP website says:

In the recent election, Gordon Campbell promised he wouldn’t impose a Harmonized Sales Tax, or HST. But just days after the vote, he broke that promise.

Disregarding the politics of the situation, you can see Carole James in action at an anti-HST rally in Vancouver on September 19, 2009 in this video.

Sure the NDP has a political angle here, who wouldn’t? This HST was proposed a couple days after Campbell assured us there would be no more tax! It’s one thing for parties to make promises and not follow through, but to lie outright, that’s just insulting. I’m a single mother who works as a server!!!! This tax is going to hurt me, period!

I am in no way in favour of paying another tax. We are already taxed to death in this province. I’ve been reasonably satisfied with the Campbell group in Victoria up until now. I will do everything in my power to prevent him from being re-elected if this tax is pushed through.
Take a look around Victoria and see how many bureaucrats are doing next to nothing while collecting large paycheques and indexed pensions. Unload some of those salaries and then come and talk to me about another tax.

Where is the NO HST Petition in Ontario? Why don’t the NDP here in Ontario organize a legal, useable Petition? Maybe they don’t really want it to stop after all, they don’t seem to be too serious about fighting it….
